About

Hi, my name is Tobias  Mann I am a photographer located in Northern Minnesota, and currently enrolled as a student at Northland Community and Technical College, where I am working on my generals before transferring to Winona State University in the fall.

This blog which originally started on wordpress but found it's way to freedom on blogger, has been my photographic outlet. I started at a very young age falling into photography naturally. I slowly began to acquire better and better equipment and just recently found the courage to share my work with the world.

I shoot with Olympus PEN E-P2 and E-PL1, Micro Four/Thirds Interchangeable Lens Cameras. I shoot with a small range of lenses.

  1. 17mm M.zuiko F2.8 pancake. (35mm Equiv. Prime)
  2. 14-42mm M.zuiko F3.5-5.6 compact (28-84mm Equiv. Zoom)
  3. 40-150mm M.zuiko F4-5.6 (80-300mm Equiv. Zoom)
  4. 50mm Pentax F2.0 Manual adapted for used with M4/3 cameras (100mm Equiv. Prime)
I also carry these cameras, but they rarely produce usable shots. An Argus C3 Rangefinder, and a Diana F+ Art Camera.

With these I can cover a very large spectrum very easily and very effectively. I use the E-PL1 for zoom and fast prime because of the cameras less effective control scheme. It also handles higher ISOs slightly better than the E-P2 making it ideal for the smaller apertures on the zoom. The E-P2 is used as my primary because of its very effective twin control dial control scheme, which makes adjustments quick and painless.

Location plays a huge role in my art. Most of the art shown on this blog is taken inside of Minnesota from all corners of the state. Because I live in Thief River Falls I find myself shooting a lot in the Northwest corner, but I also find myself in Duluth nearly every other weekend for 4 months across the summer season. My newest location will be in Winona where I am moving to complete my college education in the fall. I look forward to shooting that area extensively as it is truly a surreal experience.

In terms of education I am a completely self taught Photographer. I learn for the most part from trial and error, and while I love digital art, I don't really like over the top digital photography methods. I am a senior in Highschool (graduating in May of 2012) and a freshman in college (completing freshman year in April of 2012). I will begin my Sophomore year at Winona State University where I will study Photojournalism, and Graphic Design.
